Mr. Rice observed college and professional sports teams touch a sign or object before each game that represented playing their best. With this in mind Mr. Rice introduced a sign with the phrase “Play Like a Champion” on it. Students were told what characteristics champions have such as honesty, respect, ability to play well with others, sportsmanship and always trying their best. Halfway through the year we came up with the idea to give out game balls at the end of the week to one student in each class who we thought best represented the champion of the week. These students receive a “game ball” to take home with them as well as having their name put up on the wall in the gym.
